Amirah David, MA, LPC, PMH-C
Welcome! I'm glad you found us!
I created Genesis Perinatal Support & Counseling because I've lived the messy reality of new parenthood, and for over a decade I've specialized in helping others navigate it. I am a licensed and perinatal mental health certified counselor trained by Postpartum Support International and Karen Kleiman.
I offer a compassionate space where parents can finally speak the hard truths they're afraid to say anywhere else - because I understand both professionally and personally how complex, challenging, and profound this transition really is. I especially love facilitating workshops, classes, and groups in which parents can start to feel less alone and build the knowledge and support we used to have in our villages.

Founder & Clinical Director
Approach
I approach therapy with deep respect for your innate worth - separate from what you achieve or prove to the world. My work is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that your body, thoughts, feelings, and experiences form an integrated whole. I draw from an varried toolkit including sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic therapy, EMDR, internal family systems, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, CBT, and creative modalities like art and movement.
Perinatal & Postpartum Specialization
My perinatal work is present-focused and solution-oriented while honoring the profound identity shift of becoming a parent. I'm certified as a Perinatal Mental Health Professional through Postpartum Support International and have completed advanced training with Karen Kleiman, LCSW (founder of the Postpartum Stress Center) in assessment, treatment, and clinical practice for perinatal mental health issues.
Other Qualifications & Experience
I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR and have been in practice for over 11 years. Further training includes EMDR (SAFE model), IFS Informed EMDR (Internal Family Systems), Ross Greene's Collaborative and Proactive Solutions, Restorative Justice practices, advanced communication skills, and facilitation skills. I've worked as a therapist in mental health agencies, schools, and private practice, supporting families of diverse backgrounds through pregnancy, postpartum challenges, parenting struggles, trauma, and life transitions.
A Bit About Me
I live in Ashland with my husband and two kids (11 and 8) who keep me laughing, grounded, and humbled. I'm passionate about creative expression, spiritual exploration, and meaningful connection. My personal reference for finding meaning is the Bible, but I'm committed to meeting you wherever you are, without agenda. I love working with people seeking deeper meaning, belonging, stronger relationships, and more authentic self-expression.
