How do I know I'm getting the right provider for me?

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are new to therapy, it is perfectly normal and expected to have questions about the process and what to expect!

Check out these FAQs and if we haven't answered your question, please feel free to get in touch and ask away!

How much does therapy cost?

Private counseling is an investment and we do our best to make sure you get great value.  The hourly per session rate for Genesis Perintal ranges is $185.  You can speak to the therapist about adjusting your appointment frequency to meet your counseling monthly budget, and on occasion we have sliding scale spaces available.

Do you take insurance?

Yes we do! Some of our providers can take OHP (JCC), while other take Moda, Regence BCBC, and Pacific Source.  We are currently added new panels all the time, so feel free to inquire to see if we have completed the process to be in-network with your insurance company.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes! Once you get in touch, we will contact you to schedule a 10-15 minute free consult call - either on the phone or via a telehealth platform to evaluate your needs, answer any questions you may have, and determine right fit.

Do I need a to get a referral from my doctor?

Nope! Just come straight to us - no hoops to jump through! That being said, if you are currently working with a doctor or psychiatrist, and end up receiving support from us, sometimes it is good for your providers to work together to ensure continuity of care.

How do I know I'm getting the right provider for me?

We do our very best to match you with someone who will be a great fit for your needs, and insurance.  It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, and while we do our best to match you well, you can offer us feedback and we will take it seriously.

What if I live far away and can’t always make it in person?

No problem! We love having you in person, but we know travel can be tricky, especially with babies and children. That is why we also offer telehealth on a secure platform - so you can meet with us from home when you need to!

How long does therapy last? What's the committment?

The length and frequency of therapy depends on what you're working through. Some specific challenges - like learning coping skills for anxiety or processing a particular event - may improve with shorter-term focused work. Other concerns, especially those involving deeper patterns, trauma, or complex life circumstances, may benefit from longer-term support as we explore what's underneath and build sustainable change. Whether you're here for a few sessions or several months, meaningful change is possible when you're ready to do the work.

What should I expect in my first session? How often will I meet with you?

In your first session we will be doing the "intake" process - during which we will be learning about your concerns, symptoms, history, relationships, etc. in order to begin developing a full understanding of what you are facing, and what a reasonable course of treatment should look like.  We will collaboratively develop goals and objectives for therapy, and discuss the risks and benefits, confidentiality, and other aspects of informed consent.  Frequency of sessions depends on your needs, our availability, and the treatment plan and progress. Some people taper off slowly as they start to feel better.  Often starting with weekly is a good idea to get a jump start and find some relief.

Is therapy confidential?

Everything you share in therapy is confidential and will not be disclosed without your written consent. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality (such as risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected child or elder abuse, or court orders), which we'll review together during your first session so you understand your rights and the limits of confidentiality.

Do you ever see clients who are not in the perinatal period?

Yes.  On occasion, if it's a good fit with someone on our team, we do make exceptions.  One of our team members will be seeing children and their families on her caseload, and other cases are certainly considered.

My doctor said my symptoms were "normal" for pregnancy or postpartum - should I still seek therapy?

Yes!  Often what some providers deem "normal" can actually be much deeper and point to possible perinatal mood disorders.  But the bottom line is, if you are struggling and feeling alone in it all, you will benefit from this kind of support! We don't have the village we once had - so let's make it!

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions are scheduled by appointment and are usually 60 minutes in length.  This time is reserved for you.  If you need to cancel your appointment, a 24-hour notice is required.  You will be charged for your appointment if you fail to provide 24-hour advance notice of cancellation.  Please call immediately if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.  You can leave a message 24 hours a day. If you late-cancel or no-show more than once we will consult with you to talk about barriers and supports you may need.  If this occurs 5 times we will discuss transfer of services to an agency provider who can accommodate your scheduling needs.

What if I have a mental health crisis outside of your office hours?

In case of an emergency, related to your treatment with us, you can call us during office hours at (541) 708-3566.  If you are unable to reach us, or it is after hours, in an emergency, please call the Helpline at (541) 779-4357, or the Jackson County Mental Health Crisis Line at (541) 774-8201, or you can call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
